Bruce Kennedy is a former track and field athlete from Southern Rhodesia, later the United States, known for the javelin throw. He faced political barriers that prevented him from competing in the Olympics despite qualifying twice, in 1972 and 1976, due to Rhodesia's lack of international recognition. After becoming a U.S. citizen in 1977, he missed the 1980 Olympics due to a boycott but was honored with a Congressional Gold Medal. He later attended the 1984 Olympics in Santa Barbara as an usher, and he won the American national championships twice.
