Bud Sagendorf, born Forrest Cowles Sagendorf on March 22, 1915, was an American cartoonist renowned for his work with King Features Syndicate on the comic strips of Popeye. He was raised in California after losing his father at a young age. Starting his career as a teenager, he worked as an assistant to Elzie Crisler Segar on 'Thimble Theatre' and 'Sappo'. After Segar's death in 1938, Sagendorf moved to New York to illustrate materials and develop games for Popeye. He married his high school sweetheart, Nadia Crandall, in 1940 and later settled in Connecticut.
