He was a Member of Parliament in the 16th Lok Sabha, representing the sole Mizoram constituency, where he secured victory with 210,485 votes (48.7%), defeating candidates from IND and Aam Aadmi Party. Previously, he was also elected during the term from 2009 to 2014, demonstrating his political influence in the region.
