Camilo Montes Rodríguez is a Colombian geologist and scientist, born on April 29, 1967, in Bogotá, Colombia. He is a professor of geology in the Department of Physics and Geosciences at the Universidad del Norte in Colombia. He is known for his research on the tectonic configurations of the Andes and the Caribbean. Montes, alongside Professor Carlos Jaramillo, has shown that the formation of the Isthmus of Panama occurred 15 to 20 million years ago, rather than 5 million years ago. He was honored as a Corresponding Member of the Colombian Academy of Sciences in 2018.
