Carel ter Maat (1913-2000) was a prominent Dutch peace activist. He served as the first general secretary of Pax Christi Nederland and co-founded the Interchurch Peace Council in 1966. Ter Maat had a diverse career, initially working in a travel agency and later in a government textile distribution entity. His passion for peace and international relations drove him to establish local Pax Christi groups and to work extensively with various peace organizations, including efforts for the United Nations. He retired in 1978, leaving a significant legacy in peace activism.
