Carl Burmester was a German ship carpenter and communist resistance fighter against Nazism, born on March 12, 1901, in Hamburg. He became active in the socialist youth movement and later joined the Communist Party (KPD). Despite being arrested for his resistance efforts and facing severe torture, Burmester continued his activism. He was fatally injured during a Gestapo interrogation on September 17, 1934. His family later fled to Sweden. In 2009, a Stolperstein was placed in Hamburg to honor him.
