Carl Henry Hanford was a renowned United States Hall of Fame trainer of Thoroughbred racehorses. Born on March 12, 1916, he is best known for training the legendary horse Kelso, who attained five consecutive American Horse of the Year titles, a record unmatched by any horse. Hanford's career was temporarily halted during World War II, where he served five years in the Army Remount Service. Besides Kelso, he also trained La Corredora, who was voted Champion Handicap Mare of 1953. Hanford passed away on August 14, 2011.
