Carl-Heinz Scharpegge, born December 21, 1948, was a major in the Ministry for State Security (Stasi) of East Germany, and he served as the head of the Ministry of Public Security (MBP) representation in Poland. He studied Polish Studies in Lodz and psychology at Jagiellonian University in Krakow. Scharpegge held various positions within Stasi, including leading the Katowice branch and becoming head of the Warsaw Operations Group in October 1989. He attained the rank of major in 1988.
