Carl Hjalmby, born Carl Ernfred Rønneberg on December 9, 1934, in Arendal, was a Norwegian singer-songwriter and composer. Often referred to as 'the singing vagabond' and 'the poet of the streets,' he led a nomadic life and frequently performed as a street musician. Hjalmby signed his first record contract after turning forty and released several tapes and LPs during the 1970s and 1980s. A television program about him, titled 'Jeg håper å skape forståelse for gutta på livet,' was aired by NRK on May 20, 1979.
