Carl Neumann Degler (born February 6, 1921, in Orange, New Jersey) is an American historian who served as the former president of the Organization of American Historians, the American Historical Association, and the Southern Historical Association. He is a retired professor of American history at Stanford University and won the Pulitzer Prize for History in 1972 for his book 'Neither Black Nor White,' which compares slavery and interracial relations in Brazil and the United States. His works are used widely in educational contexts.
