Carles Miravitlles i Torras was a prominent Catalan scientist born in Barcelona on September 9, 1942. He obtained his doctorate in pharmacy and worked as a research professor at the CSIC from 1974. He founded and directed the ICMAB from 1986 to 2008 and later served as director of IETCC from 2008 to 2009. His scientific interests included structural crystallography and X-ray diffraction for solving crystal structures. He received the Narcís Monturiol Medal for his contributions to materials science and crystallography.
