Growing up in a photography family, he joined his father's business at a young age, initially working on photo retouching. Though passionate about cinema, he created a documentary about Badalona in 1928 and struggled to pursue filmmaking further. Nyssen was married twice and had two children, one of whom passed away young. He remained a significant figure in preserving the visual history of Badalona through his work.
