Carlo Marenco di Moriondo was an Italian military officer and sailor born in Turin on October 12, 1915. He served as a Sub-Lieutenant in the Royal Navy, stationed on the oceanic submarine Glauco during World War II. He was involved in a battle against an enemy steamer in the Atlantic Ocean, where he was injured but continued to direct gunfire until a strong wave swept him away. For his bravery, he was posthumously awarded the Gold Medal for Military Valor.
