He emerged from the youth system of Deportivo Juanacatlán and played professionally exclusively for Deportivo Guadalajara. As the youngest of five brothers who all became football professionals, the Barba family holds the record for the most football professionals in Mexico's top two divisions. Carlos played a total of 26 matches at the highest level before retiring early to work as an accountant.
