Carlos Alberto Idães Soares Fabião was a Portuguese military officer and politician, a member of the Junta de Salvação Nacional. He entered military school in 1950, and in December 1973, he exposed a planned right-wing coup. A key figure in the 'captains' movement, he helped overthrow the regime during the Carnation Revolution in 1974. He served as governor of Portuguese Guinea from May 7, 1974, to October 15, 1974, and became a state advisor and revolution council member. He retired in December 1993 with the rank of lieutenant colonel, decorated with the Grand Officer of the Order of Liberty.
