Carles Riu i Anglès was a Catalan ecclesiastic and bishop, born on January 7, 1901, in Sant Andreu de Palomar, Barcelona. After moving to Cuba in 1917, he was ordained a priest in 1924. He held various positions within the archdiocese, becoming bishop of Camagüey in 1949. Following the rise of Castro's regime in 1959, he faced persecution but continued his pastoral work. He eventually fled to Miami in 1964, resigning as bishop and living in the U.S. until his death on November 28, 1971, in Tampa, Florida. He was buried in St. Petersburg, Florida.
