Carmel Offie (1909–1972) was a U.S. State Department and Central Intelligence Agency official known for his close work with senior officials. He navigated regulations for personal advantage and was noted for being one of the few individuals in a prominent position to be openly gay, within the limits of the 1930s. His career was cut short when he was dismissed from the CIA amid the Lavender scare of the 1950s, which targeted individuals for their sexual orientation, particularly after his arrest drew the attention of Senator Joseph McCarthy.
