In 1985, she made history as the first Hispanic female to achieve the rank of Brigadier General. During her service, she was appointed as the Chief of the United States Air Force Nurse Corps, where she oversaw nursing operations at the Office of the Surgeon General located at Headquarters U.S. Air Force in Washington, D.C.
