Dame Carol Anne Kidu, born on October 10, 1948, is a prominent Australian-born Papua New Guinean politician. She uniquely served as the only female Member of Parliament during the 2002-2007 and 2007-2012 sessions and held the position of Minister for Community Development under Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare until August 2011. Later, she became the Leader of the Opposition until her retirement in July 2012. Kidu was also active in education, writing school textbooks, after relocating to Papua New Guinea upon marrying Sir Buri Kidu, the first indigenous Chief Justice of the country.
