She earned a doctorate in humanities and served as the associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Emory University in Atlanta. Thigpen-Miłosz was known for her significant contributions to educational history and left a legacy in academia. In 1992, she became the second wife of the esteemed poet Czesław Miłosz. She passed away on August 16, 2002, in San Francisco.
