Carter Brey is an American cellist and music educator born in 1954 in South Salem, New York. He started playing the violin at age nine before switching to cello at twelve. Brey has studied under prominent teachers and has been a member of the Cleveland Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, where he became the principal cellist in 1996. He has collaborated with many renowned conductors and chamber musicians, performed at major music festivals, and has taught at the Curtis Institute of Music since 2008.
