Catherine Hamlin was an Australian obstetrician and gynecologist, co-founder of the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital with her husband Reginald Hamlin. This hospital is the only medical facility in the world dedicated exclusively to free treatment of obstetric fistula for poor women suffering from childbirth injuries. She was honored by the UNFPA for her pioneering work in fistula surgery, helping to develop procedures that have treated over 60,000 women. Hamlin passed away in Addis Ababa on March 18, 2020.
