Cathy McGowan AO, born on November 29, 1953, is a former independent Australian politician who served as the MP for Indi from 2013 until her retirement in 2019. She won her seat by defeating Liberal MP Sophie Mirabella. McGowan has been recognized for her contributions to community issues affecting women in rural areas, being awarded the Officer of the Order of Australia in 2004 and the Centenary Medal in 2001. She holds a master's degree in Applied Science from the University of Western Sydney.
