Cemil Meriç was a prominent Turkish writer, translator, and thinker born on December 12, 1916, in Reyhanlı (İskenderun) and passed away on June 13, 1987, in Istanbul. He researched various fields within social sciences, particularly language, history, literature, and philosophy, as well as sociology, producing numerous articles. His twelve works, combined with his translations, have held a significant place in Turkish literature. He was also the father of sociology teacher Umit Meriç.
