Chandra M. Varma is an Indian-American theoretical condensed matter physicist born on June 15, 1942, in Akalgarh, India. He studied at Osmania University and earned his master's and doctoral degrees at the University of Minnesota. Varma worked at Bell Laboratories from 1968, serving as the head of the theoretical physics department from 1982 to 1985. He later became a Distinguished Professor at UC Riverside. Notably, he contributed to the theory of high-temperature superconductors and received several prestigious awards, including the John Bardeen Prize.
