Chandra Prakash Mainali, born in 1953, is a prominent communist politician in Nepal. Emerging as a leader during the Jhapa movement in the early 1970s, he played a significant role in initiating an armed uprising inspired by the Naxalbari movement in India. After the party’s leadership disapproved of their methods, he founded the All Nepal Communist Revolutionary Coordination Committee and became its General Secretary. Following changes in party strategy, he was replaced but continued his political career, eventually forming the Communist Party of Nepal (Marxist-Leninist) and leading protests against government actions until his house arrest in 2005.
