Charan Das Mahant, born on 13 December 1954, is a prominent Indian politician affiliated with the Indian National Congress. He currently serves as the Speaker of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly. Mahant represented the Korba constituency in the Indian Parliament and held the position of Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing. He was the sole Congress MP from Chhattisgarh in the 15th Lok Sabha. Besides politics, he is an author of three books focused on India's history and culture, and advocates for the upliftment of tribal communities through various initiatives.
