Francis competed in the 2007 Pan American Games and the 2011 World Aquatics Championships, achieving a best finish of 16th in the 50-metre backstroke. He qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London after succeeding at the Canadian Olympic trials, where he competed in the 100-metre backstroke and reached the semifinals, finishing 15th overall. He was also a member of the Canadian 4 x 100 m medley relay team.
