Charles H. Jacoby, Jr. is a retired United States Army General born on June 19, 1957, in Detroit, Michigan. He served as the fifth Commander of the United States Northern Command and the Commander of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) from August 2011 to December 2014. Jacoby joined the military in 1978, completed officer and staff training, and earned a master's degree in history from the University of Michigan. He was the first non-pilot to command NORAD, having previously worked as the Director for Strategic Plans and Policy at the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
