His research focused on the pathology and immunology of leprosy and its transmission, and he was the first in India to utilize an electron microscope for leprosy research, which he introduced at the Christian Medical College in 1963. In recognition of his groundbreaking contributions to leprosy research, he received the Damien-Dutton Award in 1993, presented by American President Bill Clinton.
