Charles Kao is an American economist born on April 16, 1936, in Nanjing, Jiangsu, China. He is the founder of the Far Eastern Group and currently serves as a professor and department chair in the Economics Department at the University of Wisconsin–River Falls. Kao is also one of the co-founders of the Taiwan-based magazines 'Yuanjian' and '30 Magazine', as well as a founding member of 'Tianxia Magazine'. In 1986, he left 'Tianxia Magazine' with Wang Lihang to focus on the development of 'Yuanjian' and the Far Eastern culture group.
