Charles M. Lieber, born in 1959, is an American chemist and a pioneer in nanoscience and nanotechnology. Recognized by Thomson Reuters as the leading chemist of the decade from 2000 to 2010, Lieber has published over 400 peer-reviewed scientific papers and has edited several books in the field. He holds more than 50 issued patents and has founded nanotechnology companies, including Nanosys in 2001 and Vista Therapeutics in 2007. He is well-known for his contributions to the synthesis, assembly, characterization of nanomaterials, and the application of nanoelectronic devices in biology.
