Charles W. McManis (1913-2004) was a prominent American organbuilder from Kansas City, Kansas. He earned degrees from the University of Kansas and began his career at Austin Organs, Inc. After serving in WWII, he wrote articles on organs and contributed to the organbuilding community as a charter member of the Organ Historical Society. Over sixty years, he built or restored nearly 140 organs, innovating with voicing techniques and experimenting with materials. McManis retired to California in 1986, yet continued to work on organs, including a restoration after a tornado.
