Charles Howard Schmid Jr. (1942–1975), known as the Pied Piper of Tucson, was an American serial killer. His crimes were reported by journalist Don Moser in a Life magazine article in 1966. Schmid's criminal activities inspired Joyce Carol Oates's short story 'Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?'. Moser's article was also included in The Library of America's collection of American true crime literature in 2008. Schmid's notoriety as a deadly figure continues to be remembered in American crime history.
