Charles W. Daniels (January 14, 1943 – September 1, 2019) served as a justice on the New Mexico Supreme Court from 2007 to 2018. Appointed by Governor Bill Richardson, he first won election in 2008 and was retained in 2010. He was named chief justice in 2010 and again in 2016. Before his judicial career, he was a criminal defense attorney. Born in Arkansas, he later moved to Albuquerque, where he pursued a strong academic career. An avid musician and race car enthusiast, he continued these passions until his death from ALS in 2019.
