Charles Walter David Jr. (June 20, 1917 – March 29, 1943) was a Steward's Mate in the United States Coast Guard who died of pneumonia after heroically rescuing sailors from the torpedoed troop transport Dorchester during World War II. Assigned to the USCGC Comanche, he bravely dove into the freezing waters to save exhausted crew and passengers. His actions led to his own illness, resulting in his death shortly after. He was posthumously awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal, which was presented to his widow Kathleen and their son Neil.
