Born on February 8, 1951, in Sofia, he served in various positions in the Ministry of Internal Affairs from tracking foreigners to becoming a deputy chief. He rose through the ranks, becoming the director of the Sofia Directorate of Internal Affairs. After his dismissal in 1991, he engaged in business, including arms trade, and was involved with several notable individuals. Chernev was also politically active and founded his own political party in 2012.
