Cherry Muhanji, the pen name of Jeannette Delaine Washington, is an American writer born on April 26, 1939. She is renowned for her novel 'Her', which won the Ferro-Grumley and Lambda Literary Awards in 1991, and the anthology 'Tight Spaces', co-published with Kesho Y. Scott and Egyirba High, which received an American Book Award in 1988. Muhanji has also written poetry and short stories, and she holds a doctorate in English, anthropology, and African American World Studies. Currently, she is working on a memoir.
