Residing in Rome, her apartment served as a depot and safehouse for those escaping fascism. Known as 'Mrs. M.' within the network, Chevalier faced significant dangers but remained committed to aiding approximately 4,000 refugees. After the war, she was awarded the British Empire Medal for her bravery and efforts. Chevalier died on 9 July 1973 in Malta and is commemorated with a memorial garden.
