Chi-chi Nwanoku, OBE, born in 1956 in London, is a prominent double bassist and a professor at the Royal Academy of Music. She is a founding member and principal bassist of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, having held this position for 30 years. Of Nigerian and Irish descent, she founded and serves as the artistic director of Chineke!, the first professional classical music orchestra in Europe made up of ethnic minority musicians. She has also played as principal double bassist for several ensembles including Endymion and the London Mozart Players.
