Chidambaram Subramaniam was an Indian political leader and freedom fighter born on January 30, 1910. He served as a minister in the central government overseeing agriculture, finance, and defense, and later held the position of Governor of Maharashtra. Notably, he was instrumental in launching the Green Revolution in India alongside M. S. Swaminathan, B. Shivaramakrishnan, and Norman E. Borlaug, which aimed to make India self-sufficient in food production. In recognition of his contributions to the Green Revolution, he was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honor, in 1998.
