After being raised by her grandparents and later adopted, she graduated from what is now Kyoto Women's University and worked in education until 1951. Known for her blend of classical knowledge with fantasy, she was regarded as a leading avant-garde female poet and is also recognized for her research on Saikū. She passed away from acute heart failure.
