Ching-I Tu is a prominent expert in classical Chinese poetry, intellectual history, hermeneutics, and the cultural changes in modern East Asia. Born on May 13, 1935, in Nanking, China, he served as a professor and founding chair of the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Rutgers University. Additionally, he was the founding director of the Confucius Institute of Rutgers University. With a significant academic contribution, Tu has authored and edited numerous books and written many scholarly articles.
