Chiyonoyama Masanobu was a prominent Japanese sumo wrestler born in Fukushima, Hokkaidō, on June 2, 1926. He served as the 41st yokozuna from 1951 until 1959 and is recognized as the first 'modern' yokozuna, having been promoted by the Japan Sumo Association. Notably, he was the first yokozuna from Hokkaidō, paving the way for future yokozuna from the region. After retiring, he established the Kokonoe stable in 1967 and continued to influence the sport until his death on October 29, 1977.
