Chōshin Kabira (1908-1998) was a prominent bureaucrat, broadcaster, and folklorist in Okinawa. He established the first Japanese-language broadcasting station in post-war Okinawa, playing a crucial role in the revival of Okinawan culture. Notably, he was the first announcer in Okinawa and later became the chairman of the Okinawa Broadcasting Association. Kabira came from the Iejima royal family lineage and changed his family name to Kabira in 1835.
