Chou Meng-tieh was a Taiwanese poet and writer, born on December 29, 1921, in Xichuan, Henan. He fled to Taiwan in 1948 after the Communist takeover in China, where he lived apart from his family. He began writing poetry at the age of 32, adopting the pen name Meng-tieh, meaning 'Butterfly Dream', inspired by the philosopher Zhuangzi. His notable work is the poetry collection 'Gudu Guo', published in 1959. He was honored as the first literature prize laureate by the National Culture and Arts Foundation in 1997. Chou passed away on May 1, 2014, at the age of 92.
