Chris Gittins MBE (1902–1988) was a British character actor best known for portraying Walter Gabriel in the BBC radio series The Archers for 35 years. Born in Stourbridge, he began acting in the theatre before transitioning to radio. Gittins was noted for his use of Black Country and Midlands accents. His notable phrases, such as "Oh dear, oh lor" from The Archers, contributed to his national recognition. He also appeared in TV series like Hilda Lessways and Swizzlewick. Gittins received an MBE in 1984 and passed away leaving one daughter.
