He is renowned for creating famous stories such as 'Jumanji' in 1981, 'The Polar Express' in 1985, and 'Zathura' in 2002. His work has received critical acclaim, earning him the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 1986 for his book 'The Garden of Abdul Gasazi.' In April 2012, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Michigan.
