Chris Woods was an American saxophonist and flutist known for his work in Swing, Rhythm & Blues, and Modern Jazz. Born on December 25, 1925, in Memphis, Tennessee, he began his career in Memphis and later worked in St. Louis with the Jeter-Pillars Orchestra. Woods moved to New York City in 1962, collaborating with prominent musicians and participating in notable jazz operas. In the mid-1970s, he recorded several albums in Europe and played with the Count Basie band until his death on July 4, 1985, in New York.
