Christian Message was a French politician born in Paris in 1905, initially a seminary student. He became a syndicate secretary in 1927 while also running a bistro. He founded the journal La Défense passive and the national-socialist weekly La France nationale-socialiste, promoting a French variant of national socialism. His political party was minor, having fewer than 50 members. In 1941, he was imprisoned by the Germans for criticizing Hitler but was released upon intervention by Pierre Clémenti. Convicted of treason in 1946, he was later granted clemency.
